Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 16, 2025 — Last updated: June 16, 2025
Mise en Mémoire ("we," "our," or "us") is a private fine dining journal for iOS. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how it is stored and protected.
1. Data You Provide
When you use Mise en Mémoire, you create and store the following information:
- Meal logs — restaurant name, date, occasion, dining companions, ratings, and notes
- Course records — dish names, ingredient and technique tags
- Wine pairings — wine name, producer, vintage, region
- Photos — cover photos, course photos, and wine label photos you capture or select
- Voice notes — optional audio recordings attached to courses
- Reservations — upcoming reservation details you add
All of this content is yours. We do not read, analyze, or use your personal meal logs for any purpose other than providing the app's features to you.
2. Account Information
Mise en Mémoire uses Sign in with Apple for authentication. When you sign in, Apple shares with us only the information you authorize — typically a name (if provided) and an Apple-anonymized email address or your real email address. We store your Firebase User ID to associate your data with your account.
We do not collect passwords. We do not store your Apple ID. Apple's privacy policy governs the sign-in flow.
3. How and Where Data Is Stored
Your data is stored using Google Firebase services:
- Firestore — meal, course, pairing, and reservation records are stored in Google Cloud Firestore (us-central1).
- Firebase Storage — photos and voice notes are stored in Google Cloud Storage, keyed to your user ID.
- Firebase Auth — authentication tokens and session data.
All data in transit is encrypted via TLS. Data at rest is encrypted by Google Cloud's default encryption. Access is governed by Firestore Security Rules that ensure only you can read or write your own data.
We do not operate our own database servers. Firebase's data processing terms apply: firebase.google.com/terms/data-processing-terms.
4. Subscriptions and Payments
Mise en Mémoire uses RevenueCat and Apple In-App Purchase (StoreKit 2) to manage subscriptions. Payment is processed entirely by Apple — we never receive or store your payment card information.
RevenueCat receives anonymized purchase events and entitlement data to unlock subscription features. RevenueCat's privacy policy: revenuecat.com/privacy.
5. OCR Menu Scanning (Mise+ and Mise Pro)
If you use the OCR menu scan feature, the photo you select is sent to a Cloud Function that uses the Anthropic Claude API to extract course names from the menu image. The image is not stored by Anthropic beyond the duration of the API request. We do not retain the image on our servers after processing.
6. Analytics
We use Google BigQuery (via a Firestore streaming extension) to analyze aggregate, anonymized usage patterns — for example, which features are most used. This data does not include the content of your meal logs, photos, or personal notes.
7. Data We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect location data or GPS coordinates.
- We do not use advertising networks or sell your data to third parties.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not share your meal logs, photos, or personal notes with any third party.
8. Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete the app, your account and data remain in Firestore until you request deletion (see below).
9. Deleting Your Data
You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing [email protected] with the subject line "Data Deletion Request." We will permanently delete your Firestore records, Storage files, and Auth account within 30 days.
Aggregate, anonymized analytics data that cannot be traced back to you may be retained.
10. Children's Privacy
Mise en Mémoire is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
